Practice
Vinyasa yoga is one of the many styles of Hatha yoga, with Hatha referring to the physical branch of yoga. Vinyasa is a flowing style in which the breath and the movements are linked – creating an energetic, dynamic practice. There are many styles of Vinyasa yoga - each one with its own emphasis.
Lauren teaches a "soft" Vinyasa; classes are dynamic, yet gentle enough so that the practitioner is able to stay within his/her boundaries and balance the qualities of effort and ease. In her classes, the focus is on alignment, physical and mental awareness, grace and surrender.
The practice of asana (posture) is always initiated by the breath and observed by changes occurring in the breath as a result of the asana. It is very natural and common to feel the desire to physically achieve more while practicing asana. This desire can be harmful on both a physical and mental level.
Students are encouraged to practice “yoga krama” – stages, steps – as a means of progression. This approach allows the practitioner to experience the physical as well as the mental benefits that yoga has to offer.
